Classic Gaming on the Move Done Properly!
I really do like my classic gaming as these were the games I was brought up with my childhood. Being a kid born in the 80’s, raised in the 90’s this was a great era for gaming. The 8-bit era was just coming to a close and the 16-bit consoles were making an appearance, most notably with the Super Nintendo and Sega Megadrive (Genesis for you American Fans).
This was the era of Sonic versus Mario. To me Sonic was way cooler than Mario but the Mario games were far more refined than the Sonic games. Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed playing on both; I was lucky enough to have both consoles (at the time they were expensive, equivalent in today’s money of a PS4 at launch price). and enjoy both offerings from Sega and Nintendo.
Looking back at how hard some of the games were back then, I must have been so much a better gamer than I am today. Like Cranky says in DK – “back in my day when we played a game we had 3 lives and no continues!”. In all honesty these days I wouldn’t stand a chance finishing some of the games I managed when I was kid. Fast forward to 2014 and I wanted something that I could play all my classic games and at the same time could easily be portable.
By chance I came across the JXD S7800b, this is essentially what looks like a PSP but runs Android. Android has a great Emulation scene which allows you to play your favourite games on the go, so naturally this was my number one Christmas present I wanted for 2014. Come Christmas Day 2014 my Girlfriend had bought me one as present, this was the quietest she has ever known me.
I now had Mario, Sonic and all my fave games of 90’s at my fingertips and most important this was easily portable! The frame rate is good on the games but that is more down to the coding of the emulator than the CPU within the device, so far I have managed to finish Sonic 1 and Super Mario World all overĀ againĀ and at the same time recapture the magic of my youth.
