Oceanhorn: First Look
Whilst browsing on twitter I noticed one game on my feed seemed to getting quite a bit of attention, the game was a bright, colourful top-down view RPG which is my kind of game. Naturally being intrigued by this I took a look at what this game could be, behold Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas.
Now I must admit I haven’t played much of this game so far but I’m writing this article right now being impressed what I have played so far and wanted to share this with you.
The game starts off in a very Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past manner, in which the game’s protagonist is brought in which is very similar to the opening scene in which his uncle went off to find the Golden Power; in Oceanhorn your uncle is off to find this elusive beast.
Once the main guy is brought in you’re pretty much free to go on your way and the game introduces you to its gameplay mechanics.
The game literally does play like a game very similar to Link to the Past but brought up to present day with more modern graphics instead of a 2D backdrop. The level design however is a mix between a typical top-down RPG and that of which is very similar to Legend of Zelda Wind Waker.
The main gameplay mechanics are there which you would expect there to be; you have your typical slashing your sword button and your shield button. As you progress you start to open up the gameplay’s world and in this you get to have your own ship to set sail on the ocean, all of which gives this game some pleasant and respective nods to the classic genre.
As and when I get further in the game I’ll update my progress. In meantime why not checkout the trailer:
