God of War III – Remastered
Here in the UK we have a website called HotUKdeals which is great for spotting a bargain. The had posted that God of War was on offer for £12 on Amazon, so at that price and never actually ever playing any within the series I thought I would give this a go. Only hearing positive mentions about the franchise was enough to get me to part with my cash.
Story: The game follows the main protagonist, Kratos who is (obviously) the God of War, at the start of the game he is mounting an attack on Mount Olympus where Zeus resides with the help of the Titans. One of the Titans gets particular focus Gaia who seems to be drawing all of the attention of the god Poseidon. With the help of Kratos you bring down the god of the sea but not without it’s cost. During the battle you’re flung down to the depths of Hades. This is where the game starts properly introducing you to it’s mechanics and where you build your character back up to full strength by earning the abilities you lost and adding the moves to your repoitoire. From here you set out on your mission to kill Zeus.
Gameplay: To me this game felt very similar to Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver with the hack and slash style of game. This is naturally done from a 3rd-person perspective. The game starts of by introducing you to the weapon and basic skillset. To be honest I only realised the importance of blocking enemies until later in the game. The first weapon you’re introduced to is the Blades of Exile. This uses a simple control mechanic, one button for a fast attack and another for a heavy attack. Mixing this up and holding the different buttons down achieve different results which could mean from popping the enemy into the air to slamming your chains down upon them. As you progress through the game you unlock further weapons such as the ones Hercules uses to pulverize you with and also the Blades of Hades. This means you can switch up the weapons you’re using to suit the enemies you’re fighting, some will suit different weapons.
Currently I have finished the game yet but will get around to doing so. I’m more at the final battle which you can tell as they build it up so much it can’t be built up any more. To be continued……..
