Wipeout Omega Collection Review
So the new Wipeout Gamr has been out a while now, enough time to give you guys my thoughts on this instalment. First things first, I won’t beat around the bush, this game is bloody good. Yes there are areas which are good and some which could be improved but this is my opinion on the game after finishing 30% of the game.
Graphics: We all knew this game was gonna look great from the start, especially when this game has been remastered, Sony want to make this Stand out from the rest. They have done a great job remastering this and it does look good 4K. With that said that 4K looks good in this game (as long as you turn motion blur off) it still looks great even if you’re playing it at 1080p like myself. For this one game there isn’t much difference between 1080p and 4K but yes for other games there are.
Gameplay: The game is essentially 3 games re-mastered into 1 huge game. You have the choice of playing Wipeout 2048, Wipeout HD and Wipeout Fury. With each game these do play similar yet at the same different to the others. The developers even changed the GUI depending on which version you was playing. With the 3 games remastered it definitely feels like more love and attention was shown to Wipeout 2048, the levels, speed of the game and challenge does feel a lot more balanced.
The other two do feel a little like just a repoolished game, no improvements made, just up the res to 1080p / 4K instead. This doesn’t mean that it’s not a good game, it just means that if you was expecting the developers to reinvent the game and franchise then you will be disappointed.
Here’s some footage some me playing this on a standard PS4. The recording is pretty poor for PS4 but you get the idea.
For the money you pay for this game, you definitely do get what it’s worth (unlike some games in this era) so if you want to relive a classic or just getting into it for the first time you will get a lot of fun from this. My only gripe from this Omega Collection isn’t so much what’s in the game, it’s what isn’t. I was really hopeful in this game more of the tracks from 2097 (like Gare D’Europa) and Wip3out had been included in the game. Some of the tracks in these two games were some of the best of the whole franchise, I really do hope the developers introduce these in a later DLC.
