So I bought an Xbox One S
Recently I’ve been itching to play some of the older Gears of War games which I got as part as a download code for the Xbox One console. So with Amazon Prime day on the last week I decided to take the plunge and purchase one. The Console bundle I got was £80 cheaper than what I would have paid if it wasn’t Prime day. I was definitely glad I had the patience to wait and hold out for a better deal.
The Console bundle I got came with:
- Xbox One S 500GB Version
- Forza 3 Horizon
- Xbox Chatpad & Headset
- Minecraft Xbox One Edition
- Extra Controller
So now with the new console, I got this booted up and finally got the downloads underway. Forza 3 is a 50 gig download, so in this day & age if you got superfast broadband it isn’t problem, HOWEVER Xbox Live doesn’t seem capable of delivering content at the speed my connection can receive this at (I work for an ISP so know our links into Microsoft’s network are not contended). So after a few hours the download finally finished. One thing that did annoy me was that the Xbox doesn’t let you play the game if it know there’s an update which needs downloading. So again I had to wait another hour for this download to complete.
So now after I finished the downloads I could have a look at the 4K / HDR features of the Xbox one S. I did a quick check and the Xbox was saying my TV only supported half of the features. After tinkering around with some settings in the TV (it was hidden under an option called HDMI Deep colour) the Xbox was compatible with the TV to run in every video mode it required. Now I moved onto checking out Forza Horizon. HDR makes games look so colourful and gives you better clarity of the fine details which might have gone missed. After a few quick races, I jumped onto Gears of War 1 to see what the backwards compatibility was like. The game played fine but hasn’t really stood up to the test of time (it is 11 years old to be fair), with that said though it doesn’t mean that the game wasn’t fun. I really liked the first gears it was a game that was gritty, violent and just came out of no where. I’ll be covering the Xbox 360 versions of the Gears game in later articles.
Below are some pics.
